Podcast episode 465ish: Andy Cañete

Andy Cañete returns for his second go-round. Both times he's been talking about his latest Fringe show, but our talks always delve deeper. In this one, he talks about the dangers of being a soccer fan in his native Chile, the secrets of Gloria Macarenko, how Chris Farley makes him feel old, the dangers of some old jobs he's had, and the plausibility of Mariel Hemingway as a presidential bodyguard.

Podcast episode 401ish: Andy Cañete

I'm trying to think if Andy Cañete is our first South American guest on What's So Funny? He might be. But I'm not going to do the grunt work necessary to find out. If there have been others, I apologize. Maybe it's safe to say he's our first Chilean. But you'd never know it because he speaks English so darn good! Fresh off his Fringe stint with his Porn and Pinochet, he talks about what it was like to live under the thumb of a dictator (we're talking Augusto Pinochet here, not Stephen Harper). He tells us about giving the silent treatment to Jennifer Beals. And we discuss his Señor Fantasico.

Check it out. Stream it here or go download it at iTunes, Stitcher, etc. (I think you have to subscribe to What's So Funny? on iTunes if you want it today because they're always super late getting episodes up.)

Sept. 20: Andy Cañete

Fresh off his Fringe Fest run on Porn and Pinochet, we've got Andy Cañete in studio tonight. He gave his last performance at the Vancouver Fringe last night and he's here to tell us all about it tonight. Cañete's been on the standup scene for several years now and he took some of those routines and formed them into a one-man show about growing up a Chilean in Canada and a Canadian in Chile, spending large chunks of his childhood in both places. I wonder if he'll show up in the body paint. Here's hoping!

We're on the air at 11 pm at 100.5 FM in Vancouver, or livestream us at coopradio.org.
