Sunee Dhaliwal appeared on What's So Funny? in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He was on a roll. Then... nada. Gonzo. Where has he been? We'll find out tonight when Sunee makes his triumphant return to the show! I know he left us for Toronto at some point (which may explain his absences, but we've had other Toronto comics on in those years) and we'll catch up with him about his official whereabouts. I ran into Sunee a few weeks back at an outdoor basketball tournament (we were spectators) and we reconnected. Hopefully he's more sober tonight!

Here's one of the liveliest episodes we've had. Dino Archie invited along his good buddy Sunee Dhaliwal at the last minute and the two of them left me in the dust. Sunee would help things along by translating Dino's hip street talk to old white guy so I could understand. Along the way, Dino emotes like a true thespian for any casting agents who might be listening, Sunee tells the story of a time when he innocently used a racial epithet by accident, and I talk about getting dunked on by Alonzo Bodden. It's three dudes enjoying each other's company... pause. (Did I do that right?)

Hey, we're late again. What are you gonna do? Here's our episode with Sunee Dhaliwal. On his first visit, Sunee did half the show calling in from his car and half the show in studio. It was Easter Sunday on the day, so Sunee arrived with stigmata, thanks to a vicious bulldog. And we talked about his burgeoning television career where he plays a 15-year-old. Apr. 8: Sunee Dhaliwal

In the lull after your Easter repast, why not join us as we welcome Sunee Dhaliwal for his second visit to What's So Funny? Regular listeners will know what happened the first time: His car "broke down" so he did most of the show on the phone while screaming in from Abbotsford and managed to get to the studio for the last 15 minutes of the show. Tonight he promises to be there early. Either way, we're going on air at 11pm. We'll talk about his latest hand injury and all the TV work he's done lately. We'll get our basketball talk out of the way before airtime, don't you worry.

Podcast episode 225ish: Sunee Dhaliwal

When Sunee Dhaliwal called me up five minutes before airtime saying he was going to be late, I thought little of it. He wouldn't be the first. I'd play a clip to start the show and then we'd introduce him. No biggie.

When he told me he was in Abbotsford at the moment, things changed. How could he just be telling me now? He claimed he had car trouble, but that sounded like a lame excuse. I also thought if he got to the studio with five minutes to spare, it would hardly be worth the effort. But whatever.

So I went on the air and slammed the guy, telling my tens of listeners what Sunee had told me, and saying I didn't believe his story. Well, Sunee was listening on his frantic drive into Vancouver and called in to the show to give his side of the story. And we just decided to do the show that way. What we ended up with was a fun talk, three-quarters of which was on the phone. He finally did make it to the studio and we had about 15 minutes of face-to-face conversation.

Warning: this episode contains too much basketball talk for most people's taste, but it just supplies the backdrop. Comedy talk is always weaved throughout. Sunee tells us about opening for Jo Koy and Charlie Murphy, talks endless smack about Ivan Decker, and explains how Graham Clark saved his life.

Mar. 20: Sunee Dhaliwal

I spent the week watching tonight's guest sitting on a chair in a dress shirt and a tie. He wasn't funny in the slightest. But he wasn't trying to be. Or expected to be. Sunee Dhaliwal, besides being one of the top up-and-coming young stand-up comics in town, is also the assistant coach of the mighty W.J. Mouat Hawks boys basketball team. The squad just wrapped up the BC Boys High School Basketball tournament in Langley finishing 4th in the province. This is the same week Dhaliwal finished second in the Comedy Mix comedy competition (losing to former, and hopefully future, What's So Funny? guest Ivan Decker), so it's been a whirlwind few days for him, capped by his first appearance on WSF? Oh, we'll have lots to talk about, for sure. And I'll do my utmost to keep the jock talk to a minimum but you know there'll be some.
