Podcast episode 545ish: Shawn Farquhar

We spent another magical hour with master magician Shawn Farquhar. As usual, we surprised him with another apt song (a snippet of which you'll hear right off the top). And he surprised us with stuff we didn't know. For example, when he was younger, he wanted to be an Anglican minister. Who knew?! He also talks about performing sick, and tells us about his hobbies outside of magic (barely outside, but still). Shawn's intimate show, Hidden Wonders, is playing Vancouver until October 26. You really should go. I did!

Listen to the episode here or download it on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, et. al. You can do it.

Sept. 8: Shawn Farquhar

It's always a treat to have master magician Shawn Farquhar on the show with us. He's so full of life and good stories. This 2-time world champion of magic spends most of the year entertaining the world. I think he was in 40 countries last year. It's only fitting that he spend a few weeks in his backyard showing his fellow lower mainlanders his bag o' tricks. His current show is a really intimate affair at a secret location. Once you buy your ticket, it'll give you the lowdown. It's a lot of fun. I saw it today, as a matter of fact.

We'll talk all about it, and find out what travels and stories he has for us since his last visit. Listen to us at 11 pm on CFRO 100.5 FM here in Vancouver (and area). If you're not in the area, you can always find us on the TuneIn Radio app or at the station's website: coopradio.org.

Podcast episode 508ish: Shawn Farquhar

It's always a treat when Shawn Farquhar finds room in his busy calendar to join us. The world-renown magician will be home for a few months, now, too, which is a treat for lower mainland magic fans. He's doing four close-up shows over two nights at an intimate little theatre in the Shangri-La Hotel on October 5 and 6. And then he'll be the magical host of Bacio Rosso for 2.5 months. In this hour, we talk about the Beverly Hillbillies, optimism in the face of disaster, and he tells us an amazing story of what happened to him right outside our studios just before the show started. Plus, we've got magician jokes!

Tune in right here, right now, below. Or find What's So Funny? on iTunes and subscribe to us. Or Stitcher. Or wherever you find quality podcasts.

Sept. 23: Shawn Farquhar

It's hard to get Shawn Farquhar as a guest. The master magician is on the road something like 250 days a year. But he's got some good news. He's got two (2) new and different local shows coming up, one that'll keep him at home for a few months. We'll talk all about them, plus lots more I'm sure because if there's one thing Shawn loves more than magic, it's talking. And he's equally good at both. Although he's only a 2-time world champion of magic, not talking, so maybe he's better at magic.

We'll be on the air at 11 pm on CFRO 100.5 FM, which, if you prefer, you can livestream at coopradio.org or find us on the TuneIn Radio app. Or, if you're patient, the episode will be out as a podcast later this week. Even if you're not patient, actually.

Podcast episode 471ish: Shawn Farquhar

Everyone knows Shawn Farquhar is a master magician. One of the absolute best. He's fooled Penn & Teller twice. He's a 2-time world champion of magic. He's the former president of IBM! No, not that IBM; the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He travels the globe most of the year but he dreams of one day being able to open up a little magic theatre here in his home province. Hey, but did you know this: Shawn started out performing comedy magic with comedians like Brent Butt and Ian Boothby and Ian Bagg in comedy rooms around BC. He tells us about the time he tried his act without the magic part. And he's got tons of other great stories, too. Plus we play a round of Talk About, a game show he and his wife were contestants on way back when. We could have gone on for another hour easily.

Have a listen. It's a good one. You can click below or just go to iTunes or Stitcher or Libsyn or wherever you usually get your podcasts.

Oct. 22: Shawn Farquhar

Tonight's guest was a tough one to nail down, folks. The guy is simply always on the move, performing all over the world. Shawn Farquhar is simply one of the world's best magicians and he lives right in our back door (a suitable place for a magician to be lurking, for sure). The Maple Ridge resident has won every major award there is in magic – he's a legitimate world champion, twice over. He's wowed Queen Elizabeth, Ellen DeGeneres, and has fooled Penn & Teller twice. He's that good. But one thing I always admire about him is the joy with which he performs whether it's for little kids at Science World or for celebrities, peers and dignitaries.

We got him between shows in Reno and on the high seas with Disney Cruises. On November 4 & 5, you can see him in town at the 75th anniversary of the Vancouver Magic Circle at Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island, where he'll be sharing the stage with magicians from South Carolina, Los Angeles, and South Korea.

We're on the air in Vancouver at 11 pm on CFRO 100.5 FM. If you're outside the area, you can livestream us at coopradio.org or find the station on your TuneIn Radio app.

To whet your appetite, check out this gorgeous trick he created that won him the world championships. It's the most elegant trick I've seen. I could watch it over and over again. In fact, I have!
