Podcast episode 462ish: Chuck Byrn

Here you go. Another podcast episode for you. This one's with former Vancouverite (but still a Vancouverite in his heart) Chuck Byrn. The veteran standup has been living in Toronto for eons but we got him on a family visit back to his home town. Great stories. Great opinions. Great voice! Listen to him tell us how he dissed Jim Carrey. Check out the stories on a vacation to Hawaii he took with Irwin Barker and Kerry Talmage. Hear how he sounded like Ian Bagg for a spell once (and the mysterious way Bagg answered his motel room door once in Victoria). Unfortunately, we lost the last two minutes but you get the vast majority of it, and it's good.

July 16: Chuck Byrn

Tonight we bid a fond adieu to our temporary radio station on Wall Street. We've been there for three years. We move back to our old space in the downtown eastside next week. Our last guest in this spot is a good one: Chuck Byrn! Chuck has been in Toronto for longer than I remember, but he's a Vancouver boy. He started out here in the 1990s with the likes of Tim Nutt, Glenn Wool and Kevin Foxx. We'll find out who else tonight. Chuck's only been with us once before and that was part of a comedy round-table, with Dylan Rhymer, Toby Hargrave and Steve Bays. Tonight he gets the hour all to himself. I'm writing this on the BC Ferries so barring a nautical disaster on the high seas, I'll be there, too.

Apr. 10: The Comedy Round-Table Reconvenes

It's been a while since we did a Comedy Round-Table. So when Dino Archie cancelled for the second time in about a month, I decided to reconvene it. And all four corners of the round table will be represented with four quality panelists: What's So Funny? first-timer Chuck Byrn, last week's guest Steve Bays, new Haligonian Dylan Rhymer, and the pneunomic (but not contagious, he assures me) Toby Hargrave.

What's on the agenda, you ask? We'll discuss as many of the following topics as time will allow: the notion of Vancouver as No Fun City, superstitions and rituals, over-rated comedy legends and under-rated hacks, comedy as entertainment vs art, and favourite comedy podcasts.
