Podcast episode 486ish: Rod Crawford

Improvising veteran Rod Crawford didn't invent improv, but he's been involved with it for 35 years. He's also dabbled in standup, and has done lots of TV work, most notably his starring role in one season of Police Academy (now available on the YouTubes!). We talked to Rod about his life in and around comedy. He also tells us about meeting Guy LaFleur and asks "What's funny?"

Have a listen, please and thank you. Here or at iTunes or wherever you personally get your podcasts.

Podcast episode 485ish: Kathleen McGee

We had to get Kathleen McGee back on the program before she moves away in May and we got her. In this very enjoyable romp, Ms McGee talks about her favourite musicals, partying around sports, heckling athletes, telling vibrator jokes to her grandparents, dying pets, and she even manages to drop the c-word on our dear Co-op radio listeners. This episode brought to you by Kit Pellow.

Here you go. Have fun listening. If you don't want to miss an episode, go subscribe to What's So Funny? on iTunes. Highly recommended.

Feb. 18: Jo Dworschak

Tonight we have a first-timer on the show, but no stranger to Co-op Radio. Jo Dworschak is a programmer on CFRO so I see her around the station sometimes (okay, once). Tonight she visits What's So Funny? to talk about her life and career in general, and her baby Story Story Lie, in particular – a live monthly event that's two-thirds storytelling and one-third telling stories (it's also a podcast). The next instalment is Thursday, February 22... or is it??? (Yes, it is. There have been no lies in the making of this blog post.)

Tune in tonight to hear all about Jo and the show. We're on the air in Vancouver at 11 pm on CFRO 100.5 FM or you can livestream us out of town on We can also be found on the TuneIn Radio app that can be found on your computing devices.

Podcast episode 484ish: Ken Lawson

What does Ken Lawson have in store for me in this episode? In the past, he's "coached" me against a 13-year-old ping-pong champ (I got slaughtered), and tried to teach me improv (he failed bigly). On his latest visit, he got me off my chair and onto the floor to test my strength. How did I do? You'll have to listen to find out, but you probably know the answer already. We also talk about his body ad nauseum, and his many hernias. And if that doesn't suitably entice you, you're dead inside. But maybe his talk of dancing topless for a living with the Comic Strippers will seal the deal. It's always a blast when the Silver Fox visits us.

Go ahead, treat yourself to this episde. Thank me later. Listen here or download us at iTunes, Stitcher, PodBay, or anywhre else you can think of.

Feb. 11: Rod Crawford

I love talk about bygone eras. I guess that's a function of being old and grizzled, but I was always fascinated with earlier eras even when I was wet behind the ears. Our guest tonight should be able to regale us with tales of yore since he's a wily veteran of the improv scene. A few weeks ago, I was at Yuk Yuk's for The Brett Martin Show and Rod Crawford was on stage doing improv. During his sit-down segment with Martin, he mentioned legendary Vancouver comic, the late Colin Campbell... Crickets... But I was excited. I saw Colin perform lots in the early '80s and even once played basketball with him when he visited Victoria. He was one of the best, but because there aren't any public recordings of him, people don't know him. Anyway, this isn't to say we'll just be talking about Colin Campbell all hour. After the show at Yuks, I spoke with Crawford and knew instantly he'd be a great guest. So here we are. Rod has run a comedy club, invented improv forms, acted, and... I'm sure lots more, which we'll get to tonight.

Tune in to CFRO 100.5 FM in Vancouver tonight at 11 pm. Or livestream us at Or listen in on the TuneIn Radio app. We'll be there.

Podcast episode 483ish: Mayce Galoni

Galoni (centre) with left-hand man Sam Tonning
Our first guest of 2018 was Mayce Galoni, a few months after his 10-minute tryout a few months earlier. The 27th most famous name from Hamilton, who has been a Vancouver resident for seven months, talks about overcoming his anxiety of speaking in public to become a teenage barroom magician before transitioning to standup. He also tells us some sage advice given to him by his comedy hero Doug Stanhope. And I tell him all about convent living.

Here you go. On me. Listen for free below, or go download us (also for free) at iTunes or Stitcher or PodBay or elsewhere.

Feb. 4: Kathleen McGee

I recently heard the sad news that Kathleen McGee was abandoning us and moving to Edmonton soon. Is it true? We'll find out tonight as Kathleen joins us. She'll sort everything out for us. It's been two years since she was last (and first) with us and she's one of my favourite people on the scene. The standup comic and host of the Kathleen McGee is a Hot Mess podcast always has lots on her mind so we'll have lots to talk about.

We're on the air at 11 pm on CFRO 100.5 FM here in Vancouver. Her Alberta, Ontario, or California friends and family can stream us on of find us on the TuneIn Radio app.
